FAQ ABOUT STUDENT VISA (English Test)
It is essential for applicants applying for a student visa to be aware that submitting a valid English language proficiency test is now a mandatory requirement. This applies to individuals holding passports from countries categorized as Assessment Level 3, such as the Philippines.
While there are various English language proficiency tests available, only certain tests are accepted. These include:
-
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
-
Pearson Test of English (PTE)
-
Cambridge English: Advanced (C1 Advanced)
-
Occupational English Test (OET)
-
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT)
The IELTS and PTE are the most widely recognized tests for student visa applicants. As part of the student visa application process, it is mandatory to submit proof of successful completion of an approved English language proficiency test. The minimum required scores for the IELTS and PTE exams are 6.0 and 50, respectively. However, it is important to note that certain educational institutions may have specific score requirements for each section/category of the test. Therefore, it is advisable to inquire first to confirm their specific requirements.
However, for those facing challenges in passing an English test, there are alternative options to continue with your student visa application:
Option 1: You may retake the test; however, please be aware that an additional payment will be required for each attempt. You may retake the test as many times as necessary, provided you can secure the corresponding payment for each test.
Option 2: You may enroll in an English course in Australia, known as the English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS). This option is available if you have previously failed the test. The duration of the ELICOS program will depend on your test score, and it must be completed prior to commencing your principal course.
